Scottish Storytelling Centre, November 2012

Photography by Paul McGuigan

We have a double bill of new writing coming up in November 2012!

Fresh from the keyboards of our Resident Writers and featuring members of the Tightlaced Ensemble, our two new plays will hit the stage in November.

We’re very excited to be back at the Scottish Storytelling Centre! It’s a gorgeous, friendly venue, a real gem amongst Edinburgh’s small spaces, and I love that the theatre is downstairs from John Knox’s house. It’s a perfect “old  meets new” combination that really suits this season’s plays, both of which feature figures from the past brought to life by new writers.

First up is Charlie & My ’45, the story of an unwilling Jacobite soldier whose views are turned on their head by a chance encounter with the charismatic prince. Jamie finds something to believe in, but his new path leads straight to Drumossie Moor…

Featuring Robert Howat as Jamie, David McFarlane as Mr Kilbreck/Charlie and Adrienne Zitt as Mary/Kate. Written by Robert Howat. Directed by Jen McGregor.

Next we have I Promise I Shall Not Play Billiards, inspired by Victorian Scotland’s ‘trial of the century’. Madeleine Smith has been tried for the murder of her lover and found neither innocent nor guilty – instead she gets a uniquely Scottish verdict: “Not proven”. She’ll never be free from suspicion, so what will the notorious Miss Smith do now?

Featuring Susanna Mulvihill as Madeleine, Kirsty McIntyre as Mimi, Danielle Farrow as Lena and Debbie Cannon as Miss Smith. Written by Fiona McDonald. Directed by Jen McGregor.

7 – 10 November at the Scottish Storytelling Centre

7.30pm (2 hours 15 including interval), Saturday matinee 3pm

£10/£8 (both shows)
