Script Submission

We accept unsolicited scripts from writers of all levels of experience. Here’s how it works:

1. You send us an email telling us a bit about yourself and your work. You can either attach a script you’ve already written or tell us about an idea you’d like to develop. No hard copies of anything please – it’s only a little office and electronic copies take us less drawer space.

2. We read your script/idea and if it speaks to us we’ll get you in for a cup of tea and talk about how to proceed. If it doesn’t, we’ll give feedback on request.

3. If you’ve come to us with an undeveloped idea, we’ll do all we can to help you to develop it. We can offer space to work and a diverse network of theatremakers from many disciplines with whom we can put you in touch. We can facilitate devising sessions and workshops, or we can just be available for a chat if you’re feeling stuck. You tell us what you need and we’ll do our best to provide it.

4. If you’ve come to us with an actual script that you want to test out, or if you’ve developed an idea with us and now have a first draft, we can programme a public rehearsed reading. We’ll pair you up with a director, cast it from the actors who train with Tightlaced and host a discussion with the audience afterwards. You get a valuable opportunity to hear your work in other people’s voices and see how an audience responds to it.

5. Following the rehearsed reading, we have another chat and discuss whether your play would be suited to further development with Tightlaced, in which case the next stage would be a work in progress before we decide whether to programme a full production.

If you would like to submit a script or idea, please email jen@tightlacedtheatre.com.

Resident Writers

Tightlaced currently has three Resident Writers; Fiona McDonald, Rob David and Robert Howat. They are all at different stages in their residencies. Here’s what we offer our Resident Writers:

  • Guaranteed slots in our Rehearsed Readings programmes.
  • Full production or Work in Progress production of an existing script of theirs.
  • Opportunity to develop a play from scratch within Tightlaced.
  • COMING SOON: Opportunity to adapt/dramaturg classic texts as part of the forthcoming Tightlaced Classics project.
  • As much support and discussion as required, whether it concerns their work with Tightlaced or their overall development as writers.

Resident Writers are selected from playwrights whose work we have featured in Rehearsed Readings. Residency is of no fixed duration but comes to an end when the opportunities listed above have been fully explored.
